Frequently asked questions
How is SIP maturity calculated?
It uses the future value of a monthly annuity: M = P × (((1+i)^n − 1) / i) × (1+i), where P is the monthly investment, i is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months. Deposits are assumed at the start of each month.
Is the expected return guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and not guaranteed. The expected return you enter is only an assumption used to project a possible maturity value; actual returns can be higher or lower.
What return should I assume for equity SIPs?
Many investors model equity mutual funds at around 10–12% per year over the long term, and debt funds lower. Use a figure you are comfortable with — the calculator lets you try any rate.
