Frequently asked questions

How do I simplify a ratio?

Divide both parts by their greatest common divisor. For example, 16:9 is already in lowest terms, while 50:100 simplifies to 1:2. The tool does this automatically, including for decimals.

How does solving a proportion work?

For A:B = C:x, the missing value is x = (B × C) ÷ A. Enter A, B and C and the calculator returns x.
